DIY Christmas Door Decorations: $1 in 10 Minutes
Fast & easy DIY Christmas door decorations for less than $2! Dollar store budget home decor hack & creative decorating ideas with ribbons & paper!
If you think about it, we all have SO MANY doors in our homes. Bathroom doors, bedroom doors, office doors, closet doors, pantry doors, the list goes on! So if we want to decorate some doors for Christmas, that could be a lot of work.
Well, I have a little treat for you today! What if we can make a door look so festive in just 5 minutes, with a $1 roll of ribbon from the Dollar Store, and some paper? It is so easy and fun I ended up making 2 variations!
I am using our powder room door as an example in this tutorial since it’s one of the first doors we see when coming into the house. Don’t you love how it turned out? Now our door looks like an oversized Christmas present! 🙂

Materials and tools to make Christmas door decorations
- Ribbons: a roll of 2.5” x 108” ribbon from Dollar Tree or Amazon is just enough to decorate our 28” x 80” door.
- Paper, glue, and mounting tape: this card stock works even better than paper if you decide to make a large paper bow. You can also use gift wrapping paper.

Step 1: cut and tape ribbons to door
Measure and cut 2 pieces of ribbons, one should be 2” more than the door width, the other 2” more than the door height. We will use these 2 pieces to make a cross pattern on the door like ribbons on a gift package.
You can use clear tape, duct tape or 2-sided mounting tape to attach the ribbons to the door. Since our door is white , I used a piece of white duct tape on each end of the ribbon to tape it to the sides of the door.
It’s helpful to use some tape to temporarily hold the ribbon level or center when you tape the ends to the door.
Step 2: add a large bow to your Christmas door decorations
The Dollar Store has large bows too, but I wanted different colors and patterns, so I made ours with this simple white card stock and just printed the patterns. If it’s for outside, you can use ribbon bows instead.
The other nice thing about paper decorations is that we don’t have to store them. Just recycle and make different ones each year for more fun!
I will post a tutorial on how to make these two large bows soon. The green bow is super easy and my favorite! You may also love: 30+ creative Christmas outdoor decorations, or how to decorate your Christmas tree like a pro with 40+ amazing ideas!
Creative variation with different colors!
You can never go wrong with red and white for Christmas. It is also fun to try other colors.
I really like how the huge green bow looks with the gold ribbon. What about you?
Hope you are having fun with all your Christmas projects! See you soon!
