Printable Planting Calendar + 3 Ways to Use It

Here’s a little spring present for you- a set of lovely and free printable planting calendar !

The easiest DIY ever!! Just print as many as you want, and have fun using it!

I designed this planting calendar to use in several ways –

1. as a reminder of when to plant ( you know those “Oh we could be eating tomatoes right now if we planted earlier..”)

2. as a record of harvesting time vs planting time (wow we are eating tomatoes in June from those seeds planted in… )

3. as a journal to help us fine tune the best planting time each year ( those Broccoli plants took off in October, but they did not in November…)

I like to print our planting calendar on this nice card stock.

The planting calendar prints out on letter size paper. Two of the sheets list vegetables from A to Z.

The third sheet is all blank, since I might have missed some of your favorite veggie, or you can use it for herbs, flowers, etc!

You  can invent different color symbols for starting seed, transplanting, and harvesting. Every region has local planting guides, use them as a start. Observe and fine tune your own planting calendar each year to your unique micro-climate!

If you live in California or similar climate, there’s a great book called Golden Gate Gardening: The Complete Guide to Year-Round Food Gardening in the San Francisco Bay Area & Coastal California which has a wonderful planting calendar and lots of great tips. planting-calendar-apieceofrainbow (1)

After talking so much about seeds, I have to end this post with my favorite lines from A Bug’s Life:

Flik: Here, pretend – pretend that that’s a seed.
Dot: It’s a rock.
Flik: Oh, I know it’s a rock, I know. But let’s just pretend for a minute that it’s a seed, alright? We’ll just use our imaginations. Now, now do you see our tree? Everything that made that giant tree is already contained inside this tiny little seed. All it needs is some time, a little bit of sunshine and rain, and voilá!
Dot: This rock will be a tree?

Happy planting! See you next week!

  1. Seriously, how am I supposed to download this? The link always takes me to the ‘Subscribe’ page, even though I’ve come straight from the email.

  2. i am unable to access the free calendar. I am having the same diificulty as Alania is having. I am new to gardening so need all the help that I can get.

  3. For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to actually download this template! I’ve registered my email but every time I click the print link at the bottom of this article, I am just taken to the Subscribe page, no downloads pop up at all. What am I missing?!

  4. I am SO thankful to you that you recycled this article! I needed this for my organization and ALSO to get me started planting on time. Wet and windy year this past and still wet and windy so I will have the time to get myself started. I also LOVE the shoebox seed organizer as my seeds are in a shoebox but just tossed in and it’s a pain to find what I want. I love this! You should do this one every January for those of us new to you! I’ve begun having vision issues (early macular degeneration) and this is VERY timely so I can get more deep colored veggies growing.

  5. This is a very nice app. I was looking for something that was cheerful and I could find in all my stuff right away. Will help to figure out problems in the garden.

Wish I could be with you right now as I am in Michigan and it is miserable!!!!

  6. thank you for the lovely printables. I will note that on the second page of the .zip file tomato is misspelled- it appears tomatoe

  7. Love the calendar, just wish it was in a word type document for easier editing so my Type A personality can keep it neater than my handwriting.

  8. I love the planting calendar! This year I was having my first garden and I didn’t use any calendar or an organizer as I was not really sure what I was doing. It was all chaotic but the garden is beautiful and I had the luck that everything grew big and healthy! I am so into gardening right now that I want to learn more and more about different plants. Thanks for sharing the planting calendar! I will definitely use it next year! Greets!

  9. Thank You SO MUCH!!! I’ve just gathered all my seeds and favorite flowers, so now I’m gonna get ready and organized this years gardening!!
