Printable Planting Calendar + 3 Ways to Use It

Here’s a little spring present for you- a set of lovely and free printable planting calendar !

The easiest DIY ever!! Just print as many as you want, and have fun using it!

I designed this planting calendar to use in several ways –

1. as a reminder of when to plant ( you know those “Oh we could be eating tomatoes right now if we planted earlier..”)

2. as a record of harvesting time vs planting time (wow we are eating tomatoes in June from those seeds planted in… )

3. as a journal to help us fine tune the best planting time each year ( those Broccoli plants took off in October, but they did not in November…)

I like to print our planting calendar on this nice card stock.

The planting calendar prints out on letter size paper. Two of the sheets list vegetables from A to Z.

The third sheet is all blank, since I might have missed some of your favorite veggie, or you can use it for herbs, flowers, etc!

You  can invent different color symbols for starting seed, transplanting, and harvesting. Every region has local planting guides, use them as a start. Observe and fine tune your own planting calendar each year to your unique micro-climate!

If you live in California or similar climate, there’s a great book called Golden Gate Gardening: The Complete Guide to Year-Round Food Gardening in the San Francisco Bay Area & Coastal California which has a wonderful planting calendar and lots of great tips. planting-calendar-apieceofrainbow (1)

After talking so much about seeds, I have to end this post with my favorite lines from A Bug’s Life:

Flik: Here, pretend – pretend that that’s a seed.
Dot: It’s a rock.
Flik: Oh, I know it’s a rock, I know. But let’s just pretend for a minute that it’s a seed, alright? We’ll just use our imaginations. Now, now do you see our tree? Everything that made that giant tree is already contained inside this tiny little seed. All it needs is some time, a little bit of sunshine and rain, and voilá!
Dot: This rock will be a tree?

Happy planting! See you next week!
