(UPDATE! The 3d 2016 calendar is here now! See link at the end!)
I am posting a little earlier than usual this week, because I am excited to share 2 things! First, a fun DIY 2015 calendar you can hold in your hands instead of flipping the pages – a 3D dodecahedron calendar made of just 2 pieces of paper!
This would be so fun to use as Christmas tree ornaments as well, and let your guests help themselves to a mini desk calendar for the new year!

At the end of the tutorial, I will share a giveaway of one of my favorite paper craft tools – a Silhouette Portrait cutting machine!
To make this calendar, all you need are 2 piece of card stock, I really like this Neenah card stockfor a lot of the paper crafts you see on this site, and print out the free template-
Download patterns at the end of article.
Cut around the outlines, and score around each pentagon shape. Gently fold along each scoreline.
Start with the first half of the year, glue each tab to the back side of the adjacent pentagon, and form half of the dodecahedron.
For the second half, do the same but leave October and November tabs open, then glue the 2 halves together.
Finish with gluing the November and October part.
That’s it! Enjoy your new calendar and wish you a happy 2015!

Update: click here for 2016 downloads!
I have made quite a few things with the Silhoutte cutting machine, such as these pretty lanterns –
Love printable paper crafts? Here’s a lovely shadow box inspired by birch forests!

Joni
I have been crazed lately looking at all the “wood saying” artwork around pinterest. I desperately want to make some for Christmas presents, but the idea of hand-painting it is overwhelming. The Silhouette would help me make some beautiful stuff. Also, thanks for all you do — you really do have some of the most unique ideas that I’ve seen.
ananda
love the idea joni! =)
Laura
I don’t want to enter the contest (already have a Silhouette Cameo) but I’d love the calendar template but the link is broken. Can you fix it? Would love to download it! Thx!

Oh my goodness! That Silhouette Portrait is going on my Holiday Wish List (but it would be even better if I won it!!!)! I love the Calendar DIY you posted and will definitely try it (thanks for the template!). But that Silhouette Portrait is something I will do amazing things with since I love to create bookmarks, book covers, scrapbooks, wall decals, and custom greeting cards. This could kick off a very creative year in 2015 🙂 Thanks for sharing your post!

Too cool! I didn’t even know something like that existing. Right now I’m looking at a garland of paper lotus blossoms that I cut out by hand. I don’t even want to think about how much time was spent on that, but I would seriously go flower-happy if I had a cutting machine.
ananda
love your idea fia! good luck! =)

What a great prize to win. Just in time for a large family wall I am creating, scrapbooks I’d love to get started, and some much needed home decorative accents. I can’t tell you what it would mean if I won one. I have been hinting for one for the last couple of years, but I might have to go right out and buy one myself, if I don’t get one for Christmas this year. LOL Thanks for sharing this contest.

Love your blog. I have a family of eight and am an avid scrapbooker. I purchased a Cricut just before I hurt my back and had to quit work. So there it sits, unusable, because I cannot afford cartridges. The Silouette would be a blessing. I could create my own DieCuts and use any font. It would truly be amazing!
Bev Frey

devin gates
Costume armour! I’ve got so many plans lying about, but my hands cramp just thinking about it.
Yvette Masullo
First, thanks for sharing the dodecahedron…just printed it!
As for the Silhouette Contest…I can’t read the dates you posted (something in your font scrambled) so I hope I still have a chance.
I am a high school teacher and I was thinking that the stencil function is a great way to create customized tee shirts for the graduates…they can have input on the designs, the designs can be created and printed, and then they can sponge them onto blank tees for a keepsake. If some don’t want to do the actual creation, I’m certain there would be other students dying to do the process.
Thanks bunches.
Nora
Thanks for the awesome calendar and sharing it with us.
I`m from Germany, so this is unfortunately not for me ;(
greetings NORA
Danilo Mancino
Why settle for any calendar when you can have this? Awesome calendar, great job
Lauren
This is so great! I’ve been looking for one of these at a decent price. I’m a jewellery student and I want to be able to design and print my own jewellery boxes. Of course I’d also use it to finally make homemade cards for everyone again! I used to do it all the time, but I’ve gotten so busy that I can’t find a few hours to sit down with my xacto anymore.
Billie Nenninger
Would love to have one of these for my crafts. I can think of soooo many things to make that would be much easier with a Silhouette.
Anita
Those lanterns are so cute. I would love to be able to make something like that. Thanks for the calendar template!

I often donate dog treats to organizations doing fund raisers. I usually customize the labels to reflect the non-profit being supported. The tags and labels would be even spiffier with a spiffy Silhouette printer. Thank you VERY much for sharing your ideas. I can hardly wait to make these to give out to friends with a nice card to wish them well in this upcoming year!
Chris
Hi,
I’m going to make the calendars with my niece and nephew at Thanksgiving. I think they will enjoy them very much.
Maryn
this is such a cute/useful craft! I love the idea of it as a little gift/favor to guests for a New Year’s party – do you think it would be even more sturdy if I sprayed it with a shellac/varnish? I think it would also be so pretty with a glossy finish…
Owen Leonard
I would make tags, 3D textile sculptures and gifts for the holidays!
